Mogalakwena Local Municipality’s growth was uncoordinated and unsustainable. Mines, traditional authorities, and government entities were operating in silos, leading to conflicts over land use and resource allocation. The municipality needed a shared vision for development—and fast.
The Value of MCPP’s Intervention:
The MCPP team facilitated extensive consultations with stakeholders, including mines, traditional authorities, and municipal officials, to develop a new Spatial Development Framework (SDF). The SDF provides a shared vision for the municipality’s growth and development. Outcomes:
- Approved SDF: The Mogalakwena Council approved the SDF in August 2023, marking a significant step toward coordinated development.
- Improved Collaboration: Stakeholders, including Anglo American Platinum and traditional authorities, actively participated in the planning process, fostering trust and cooperation.
- Informed Decision-Making: The SDF to guide future development, ensuring that investments align with the municipality’s long-term goals.
The Impact:
The SDF, approved in August 2023, is a game-changer. It guides future development, ensuring that investments align with the municipality’s long-term goals. For the first time, stakeholders are working together to achieve sustainable growth.
The Outcome:
Today, Mogalakwena has a clear roadmap for development. The SDF ensures that all roleplayers from mines to traditional authorities are on the same page, working together to build a brighter future for the municipality.
