Mogalakwena’s Local Economic Development (LED) team was under pressure to update its 2006 strategy. The team was  demotivated and struggling to rebuild relationships post-COVID, leaving the municipality’s economic future in jeopardy.
Key Challenges:
  • Demotivated LED team, struggling to gain support from municipal colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Lack of strategic direction, hindering efforts to attract investment and create jobs.
  • Fragmented efforts, with stakeholders operating independently.
The Value of MCPP’s Intervention:
The MCPP team worked closely with the LED team from 2022 to develop a new LED strategy, focusing on building confidence  and  capability. They conducted performance appraisals, held workshops, and engaged with stakeholders to identify economic  opportunities.
Outcomes:
  • Draft LED Strategy: The LED team developed a draft strategy, outlining key economic sectors and growth opportunities.
  • Improved Collaboration: The team established relationships with stakeholders, fostering partnerships for future development.
  • Empowered Team: The LED team gained confidence and a deeper understanding of local economic dynamics.
The Outcome:
Today, Mogalakwena’s LED team is more confident and capable than ever. They have a clear strategy for driving economic growth   and are working with stakeholders to create jobs and attract investment.
