This Mining Towns Collection, sponsored by Anglo American under the banner of the MCPP, contains many relevant resources that officials and professionals working in the mining towns will find valuable.

Settlement Growth in Mining Towns
The MCPP has collaborated with the CSIR and the Impact Catalyst to support mining municipalities with evidence and analyses on development dynamics, as well as settlement and population growth that impact service demand, planning and municipal financial viability. The analysis supports municipal partners (with often limited GIS capability) to strengthen their own planning and internal-, as well as partner-, engagements on inter-dependencies in, and between, settlements and sectors.

The spatial and Temporal Evidence for Planning in South Africa (stepSA) is an initiative through which the Urban and Regional Development Dynamics Group disseminates evidence on the development dynamics and inter-dependencies in, and between, settlements and regions across South Africa generated through CSIR and partner funded research and profiling. Its purpose is to support multi-role player collaboration and investment decisions that can contribute to sustainable and inclusive urban and rural development.

The Urban Knowledge Exchange Southern Africa (uKESA) is an online repository of quality, evidence-based information about the built environment and human settlements. It is a broad-based initiative across government, civil society, and the private sector aimed at strengthening networks in response to an identified need for enhanced information exchange in the southern African region.

The Green Book is a free online tool that supports municipal planning with the development of climate-resilient settlements. It ultimately facilitates the mainstreaming of climate change adaptation into local government planning instruments and processes. Having this information on climate impacts to expect in future, and how to adapt to them, is critical for municipal decision-makers.
